About Persnickety Painting
When I started Persnickety Painting in 2014, I was tired. Tired of hiring painters who treated our family home like just another job on a Tuesday. They'd show up late, leave drop cloths down for weeks, and disappear when touch-ups came up. My wife joked that our house looked like a construction zone occupied by someone else's workers. That's when it clicked: we could do this differently.
I'm Scott Phillips, a Colorado native, and painting is what I know. My first job was a neighbor's master bedroom in 2014—nothing fancy, but I showed up on time, cleaned up every single day, and came back without being asked when the trim needed a second coat. That client told me I was too particular about details. I took it as a compliment. The name Persnickety came from there, even though spelling it out on the phone became its own kind of torture.
The early jobs taught me something fast: people don't hire painters because they love painting. They hire painters because they want their homes back. They want walls that look intentional. They want to walk into a room and feel like someone cared about what they were building. A lot of painting contractors skip that part. We didn't.
We're locally owned and operated, and that's not just a thing we say. It means we're still here on Saturday when something isn't right. It means we know the climate shifts in Colorado and what that does to paint. It means we've painted the same neighborhood for a decade and we remember what your house looked like before.
A hundred percent satisfaction guaranteed sounds simple until you've actually backed it. It means we don't move on to the next job until yours is done right. We've had clients call us two months after a job was finished because something shifted in the paint, and we came back. Not because the contract said we had to. Because we said we would.
We've learned that the picky details are the ones that matter most. The spot behind the bookshelf nobody sees. The baseboard where the light hits just right. The second coat on the accent wall. Those small decisions are what separate a room that looks painted from a room that looks intentional.
'People don't remember the paint. They remember how the room made them feel and whether we treated their home like it mattered.'
— Scott Phillips, Owner
What it's like working with us is quiet. We show up on time. We set up in ways that don't take over your life. We ask questions about what you actually want instead of telling you what's trendy. We prep walls properly, which takes longer and costs more but changes everything. We clean every single day before we leave.
Clients notice the small things. That we remember to shut doors to keep dust contained. That we ask before moving family photos. That we come back for the detail work without being reminded. That we answer the phone when you call.
If you're thinking about painting your Colorado home and you want someone who actually cares about it, that's us. Get in touch and let's talk about what your space needs.
